This information comes from a European survey conducted by DECO PROTeste alongside its European counterparts, also highlighting “a growing concern among consumers about sustainability in the food sector”.
“Seven out of ten Portuguese respondents advocate for agricultural policies that promote practices protecting the environment and biodiversity, with 66% calling for European subsidies to favor farmers who adopt environmentally friendly practices and encounter economic hardships.”
The survey indicates that consumers demand “safer and more sustainable food at affordable prices”.
“Many consumers are willing to pay more for food produced in environmentally, animal welfare, and farmer-friendly farms, provided that European support ensures acceptable prices and credible sustainable practices,” states the communication.
