The assertion that the authority is being utilized by the government has been refuted by the Inspector-General of the ASAE, who also discloses that 1,300 operators have been examined and 100 criminal proceedings have been filed.
Over the course of the last 15 months, there has been a 30% rise in the price of a basket of 27 essential food goods. This growth has been tracked by the Autoridade de Seguranca Alimentar e Económica (ASAE). Since September, 1,300 operators have been subjected to inspection, and 100 criminal proceedings have been filed, according to Inspector General Pedro Portugal Gaspar’s report.
“The price of the cabaz was seventy-four euros when we first began. In an interview with Jornal Económico, the individual responsible for the situation revealed that by March of this year, it had already surpassed 100 euros. During this time span, there was no decrease in available stocks, nor was there any hoarding of resources.
Pedro Portugal Gaspar also commits to ensuring compliance with the VAT exemption for a group of 46 items over the course of a period of six months. Despite this, he predicts that certain prices will not decrease, saying that “there may still be small increases or adjustments, because there may be production costs that justify it.”
