The Minister of Agriculture assured today, in Lisbon, that food production is threatened in several member states, including Portugal, and announced that she will ask Brussels for structural measures.
“It is on the agenda of the Agrifish Council, which will be held on Tuesday, where France, Spain and Italy have endorsed our request […}, for a clear signal of concern regarding the use of water as a fundamental resource for food production, which is under threat in Portugal, Spain and other member states,” Maria do Céu Antunes said in Lisbon at a joint press conference with her Spanish counterpart.
As the governor specified, what will be discussed is the need for “concrete measures to support farmers”, namely the livestock sector, that “do not distort the internal market”.
The Minister of Agriculture met today with her Spanish counterpart, Luís Planas Puchades, to discuss issues such as drought in Europe and Spanish priorities during the presidency of the European Council.
