A protest action is set to commence on Wednesday morning and will conclude at the end of the night shift on Thursday morning.

Ford operates two factories in Germany: one in Cologne, which has become the hub for electric vehicle production and employs approximately 4,100 individuals, and another in Saarlouis, which has a workforce of nearly 6,200 people.

The metalworkers’ union IG Metall announced the strike in response to Ford’s management in Germany, which plans to cut 2,900 jobs by 2027 as part of cost reduction measures.

This strike marks the first time Ford workers in Cologne, located in western Germany, have gone on strike in the factory’s nearly 100-year history.

Ford’s facility in Cologne, which ceased production of the Fiesta in 2023, is currently manufacturing two electric cars, the Explorer and the Capri, which have not met sales expectations.
