A 31-year-old foreign national was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of sexual abuse of a person incapable of resistance, physical assault, and sexual harassment in Algés, Oeiras.
In a statement released Monday, the Polícia Judiciária indicated that the victim is a 34-year-old woman with whom the suspect shared accommodation.
“The victim and perpetrator, both foreign nationals, had been sharing the house in separate rented rooms since September 4,” the statement noted.
The crime took place in the early hours of that day after both parties had consumed alcoholic beverages and hashish.
The victim has no recollection of specifics but awoke at 2:30 a.m. with “signs of physical and sexual assaults,” and following this incident, the suspect engaged in further non-consensual sexual behaviors.
The detained individual was presented to judicial authorities for an initial interrogation and was subjected to non-custodial coercive measures.
