Foreign investment in Mozambique grew by 41.5% in 2024.

A statistical report from the Bank of Mozambique highlights a continued upward trend in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country, despite not reaching previous highs. In 2023, FDI reached $2.5 billion (€2.3 billion), with a modest increase from $2.458 billion (€2.26 billion) in 2022. However, this is still significantly lower than the 2021 peak of $5.101 billion (€4.69 billion).

FDI in Mozambique recorded a 2% growth in 2023 compared to the previous year.

The Mozambican government had anticipated that FDI would double in 2024, driven primarily by natural gas exploration projects.

According to supporting documents for the Economic and Social Plan of the State Budget for 2024, the government projected FDI to increase to $4.778 billion (€4.117 billion), a target that was not achieved.

In 2023, based on the most recent complete annual data, the category of Large Projects—mainly in mining and natural gas—accounted for $2.087 billion (€1.918 billion) in FDI, primarily as capital. This exceeded the government’s forecast for 2023, which was $1.425 billion (€1.310 billion).
