A Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF) of the National Republican Guard (GNR) detained a 53-year-old man on Wednesday for identity theft and illegal stay in the Schengen Area while attempting to enter national territory via ferry boat in Vila Real de Santo António.
The arrest was part of a Mobile Controls operation involving various national and Spanish entities, including the Guardia Civil, the Policía Nacional, the Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria, the Judicial Police (PJ), the Public Security Police (PSP), the Tax Authority (AT), and the Maritime Police (PM), the security force disclosed in a statement on Thursday.
According to the GNR, the individual was intercepted after presenting an identification document that did not belong to him.
“Following a document analysis and data cross-check, with support from the Agency for Integration, Migrations, and Asylum (AIMA), it was possible to confirm the identity of the foreign citizen and his attempt to irregularly enter the national territory,” the statement reads.
The document was seized, and the suspect was detained and brought to the Vila Real de Santo António Judicial Court.
