The Foreigners Law was approved on Tuesday, July 30, in the National Assembly.
The approval followed an agreement reached early today between PSD and Chega.
The decree was passed with favorable votes from PSD, Chega, CDS-PP, and Iniciativa Liberal (IL), while PS, Livre, PCP, and the Left Bloc (BE) voted against.
The legal framework establishes the guidelines for the entry, stay, exit, and expulsion of foreigners from Portugal.
It is noteworthy that for the new version of the law to be approved, André Ventura initially required a condition forcing immigrants to contribute to Social Security for five years before being eligible for social support. However, Chega dropped this demand, agreeing to a generic formulation on this matter.
