“The Prime Minister took the initiative to contact me yesterday [Thursday], and although it is not my habit to delay responding, especially to the Prime Minister, I was unable to reply immediately. Today, I responded, and we exchanged ideas, reaching an understanding that we must strive for consensus,” said André Ventura on the sidelines of the 3rd Liberal Professional Forum.

Without disclosing details of his conversation with Luís Montenegro, André Ventura mentioned only that they agreed it was crucial for the two parties to jointly finalize the text of the foreign law and reach a possible consensus by Tuesday, the day the law will be reviewed in the Assembly of the Republic after being rejected by the Constitutional Court.

Despite agreeing to begin discussions between the two parties, the leader of Chega, who is also a presidential candidate, warned this does not guarantee a consensus.

“It means that the obvious step must be taken, which is for the two majority parties, in the interest of the country, to control immigration and aim for safer borders, they must make this effort,” he noted.

The Prime Minister confirmed today in Coimbra that the PSD is in dialogue with Chega regarding amendments to the foreign law and emphasized that all political forces are welcome to join the negotiations.
