Former mayor of Arcos de Valdevez is the new Secretary of State for the Environment

The list of state secretaries for the XXV Government announced today reveals that the Ministry of Environment and Energy, led by Maria da Graça Carvalho, retains the same structure as the previous government, with the only change being the Secretary of State for Environment.

Emídio Sousa, who served as Secretary of State for Environment from April of last year until now, transitions in this new government to Secretary of State for Communities.

Jean Barroca, who assumed the role of Secretary of State for Energy in the previous government last February, continues in the same position in the current government. With a Master’s degree in Business Management, he was a consultant for the World Bank from 2012 to 2018.

João Manuel Esteves holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Sciences and a Master’s in Business Management. He has served multiple terms as mayor and has been a professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo and the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave. He was also the president of the General Assembly of ADAM-Águas do Alto Minho.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, today approved the list of 43 state secretaries proposed by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro for the XXV Constitutional Government.

The President of the Republic today inaugurated the Prime Minister and the 16 ministers of the XXV Constitutional Government, the second PSD/CDS-PP administration led by Luís Montenegro.

The swearing-in of the state secretaries is scheduled for Friday at 12:00 PM at the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda in Lisbon.
