The newly appointed leader of Transportes Metropolitanos do Porto, Marco Martins, in a detailed letter, elaborated on his efforts in his previous term to ensure continuity of governance under the Socialist Party (PS) in Gondomar. Martins emphasized his role in supporting the socialist candidate for mayor, who was widely supported by the political committee.
Martins expressed his readiness, at the request of interim mayor Luís Filipe Araújo and numerous members, to lead the Municipal Assembly to further assist the PS. However, current municipal leader Luis Filipe Araújo later declined Martins’ support, stating it was unnecessary.
In the letter, Martins lamented the “total disrespect, disregard, ostracization, and attempts to erase” his contributions to the PS and the council’s achievements during his tenure.
Martins further criticized his successor for the shift in relations following his leadership assumption on February 1, claiming an environment of fear now pervades the Gondomar City Council due to stalling ongoing projects and sidelining individuals connected to the past administration.
Attempting resolution, Martins offered to clarify situations but was consistently met with refusal. He reported these issues to the national party bodies, including direct communication with the secretary-general and the Porto district president, who he accused of dismissing his concerns.
After exhausting all efforts, Martins announced his resignation from the position of president of the PS Gondomar concelhia, effective immediately, on Friday.
