
The municipality of Madalena, led by Catarina Manito (PSD), announced in a statement that Henrique Paulos passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78.
Henrique Paulos served as the head of the Madalena executive from 1994 to 1997, elected by the PPD/PSD, and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Municipality in 2018 for his dedication and commitment to public service, according to the City Council.
Mayor Catarina Manito has declared three days of municipal mourning for the death of Henrique de Faria Paulos, who was the third president of the Madalena City Council elected after April 25, 1974.
“Expressing profound sorrow at this time, the leader of the Madalena executive offered her deepest condolences to the family and friends, decreeing that the municipal flag should be flown at half-mast in all municipal buildings until May 9 as a posthumous tribute to his dedication and work for the community,” the statement reads.
Henrique Paulos was born on November 22, 1946, and was described as a man “dedicated to public service,” according to the note from the Madalena City Council on Pico Island in the Azores.
