Four schools closed due to bad weather reopen in Vila Franca de Xira

The Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, in the Lisbon district, has announced that several primary schools—EB1 Vala do Carregado, EB1 São Sebastião, EB1 nº1 de Alhandra, and EB1 de Alpriate—have resumed operations following closures due to damage caused by Storm Martinho on March 20.

However, activities at the Escola Básica do Bairro do Paraíso will temporarily restart on March 27 at the EB Dr. Vasco Moniz. The municipality has not specified when the original school will reopen.

On March 20, the municipality reported 185 incidents, primarily involving fallen trees and structural damage.

Of these 185 incidents, there were 97 reports of fallen trees, 26 of construction elements collapsing, 25 requiring road cleaning and hazard signal placement, 22 involving temporary or mobile structure falls, seven building collapses, six electric supply network failures, and two landslides.

“There are no reports of displaced residents or personal injuries,” the municipality stated, adding that no main roads are currently closed.
