The victims of the accident that occurred in Collonges, a municipality near the France-Switzerland border, are two boys, aged 16 and 18, and two girls, both 18, according to Antoine Celle, deputy public prosecutor of the French commune of Bourg-en-Bresse, in statements to AFP.
Antoine Celle noted that the youths, two couples who “held Portuguese nationality and lived in Switzerland,” were traveling to Paris.
The initial findings “do not suggest they consumed drugs or alcohol,” the deputy public prosecutor added, mentioning that autopsies have been ordered on the bodies.
The accident happened at 10:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. in Lisbon) on Friday.
After losing control, the vehicle crashed into something unspecified by AFP and caught fire.
“Despite the firefighters’ intervention after a call to emergency services, all occupants were declared dead,” according to local authorities speaking to AFP.
