The recent deaths of three dogs, allegedly due to electrocution from public lighting posts in the Parque das Nações district of Lisbon and the Odivelas municipality, occurred on November 14 and 15.
An E-Redes spokesperson provided clarification today, stating that after on-site investigations and examinations, no anomalies were found in the public distribution electrical network in the Lisbon case.
In Odivelas, the death of two animals was attributed to a subterranean cable with torn insulation caused by external factors, the spokesperson added.
“It was not possible to determine the causes of the tear, which occurred underground,” the company stated.
In an effort to prevent similar incidents and ensure safety for people and property, the company has initiated additional actions, including inspecting all public lighting columns near this location in Odivelas, confirming the regularity of the electrical network’s condition.
“An extraordinary inspection program is also underway, covering various public lighting circuits in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, to confirm their technical conditions,” the statement added.
Following the deaths of the three animals, the PAN (People-Animals-Nature) has questioned the Government and the municipalities of Lisbon and Odivelas, demanding a technical investigation, accountability, and urgent measures to ensure safety for all.
