“As of 2:00 PM today, all young people aged 15 to 18 years (inclusive) can subscribe for free to a digital newspaper or magazine, of a generalist or economic nature, of their choice, for two years,” the Government announced in a statement.
The subscription can be accessed through the Portal Gov.pt, using an authentication with either the Citizen Card or Digital Mobile Key, which can be activated via the gov.pt application or at a Citizen’s Space.
The program was developed by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Youth and Modernization, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation, and is active until December 31 of this year.
This initiative is part of the PACS, presented by the Government in October last year, and according to the executive, “aims to promote media and digital literacy, combat misinformation, and foster critical thinking among young people.”
The publications available under this program include Correio da Manhã, Diário de Notícias, ECO, Expresso, Jornal de Notícias, Jornal Económico, Observador, Público, Sábado, Vida Económica, and Visão.
These media outlets submitted applications and were validated by #PortugalMediaLab, with eligibility determined based on criteria such as regular periodicity, registration with the Regulatory Entity for Social Communication (ERC), classification, and availability of a digital edition.
The Government also mentioned that to ensure the security and protection of the beneficiaries’ personal data, a Protocol for Access to the Platform of Digital Public Services — Gov.pt was established among all the media that joined the program, #PortugalMediaLab, and the Agency for Administrative Modernization (AMA).
