A 72-year-old French tourist was rescued on Thursday after suffering a fracture in one of her lower limbs in a “highly inaccessible area” on the trails of Arcos de Valdevez.
“Today, another complex rescue operation was conducted on the trails of the Arcos de Valdevez municipality. This time, the intervention took place in the parish of Sistelo, on the demanding Trilho do Padrão, classified as medium-high difficulty, with steep inclines and a very uneven surface,” the Associação Humanitária dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Arcos de Valdevez wrote on Facebook.
The organization reported that the victim was part of a group of 37 French tourists who were visiting and exploring the natural charms of the area. She sustained “a fracture in one of her lower limbs in a highly inaccessible area, located in a high mountain zone, more than a kilometer from the location of Padrão.”
“Adverse weather conditions, with some rain and cold, further increased the challenges of this operation. Despite the difficulties, our firefighters, with their profound knowledge of the territory, successfully completed the rescue, providing the maximum comfort possible to the victim at all times, within the limitations imposed by the terrain,” the corporation emphasized.
