The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) monitors water quality and occasionally issues analyses that advise against bathing.
This Saturday, at a time when temperatures are high across the country – with three districts under red alert due to heat – APA reports on the “advisories and prohibitions on bathing practices” currently in effect.
In the Alentejo and Algarve regions, all beaches have been given the ‘green light’, but the same is not true for other regions.
Due to microbiological contamination or detection of salmonella, there are beaches or river areas where the agency has given a ‘red light’. But which ones?
North:
– Verim bathing water, Póvoa de Lanhoso municipality;
– Matosinhos bathing water, Matosinhos municipality;
– Amorosa bathing water, Viana do Castelo municipality;
– Vale Juncal bathing water, Mirandela municipality
Center:
– Açude de Vais bathing water, Penalva do Castelo municipality
Tagus and West:
– Ribeira Grande bathing water, Sertã municipality;
– Cambas bathing water, Oleiros municipality.
