Current Status: Who Supports the December 11 General Strike?
Participants at the 14th Congress of the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam) unanimously approved a motion to join the December 11 general strike against the government’s labor package.
- Nurses
Nurses will join the general strike on December 11, protesting the Collective Work Agreement proposed by the government and the Labor Package, which they claim jeopardizes contracts and removes benefits, announced the Portuguese Nurses Union.
- Flight Attendants
Cabin crew represented by the National Civil Aviation Flight Personnel Union (SNPVAC) approved joining the general strike on December 11 during an emergency general assembly.
The National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) has announced its participation in the December 11 general strike, opposing the threat of a “civilizational regression” in the labor law reform.
- Journalists
The Journalists Union (SJ) will join the general strike and urges professional adherence, arguing that the labor law reform is a “civilizational regression”.
- Construction, Ceramics, and Glass Union Federation
The Portuguese Federation of Construction, Ceramics, and Glass Unions (FEVICCOM) announced it will join the December 11 general strike to reject the labor package, defend jobs with rights, and support collective bargaining.
- Commerce, Offices, and Services
The workers in Commerce, Offices, and Services will participate in the general strike scheduled for December 11, as stated in a communication from the Union of Commerce, Office and Services Workers of Portugal (CESP).
The SBC – National Union of Banking, Insurance, and Technology Workers has fully endorsed the general strike, reiterating previously publicized concerns over the government’s labor legislation proposal.
- Lisbon Municipality
The Union of Lisbon Municipality Workers (STML) has announced its adherence to the December 11 general strike, highlighting that the labor package proposed by the government represents “a severe setback in their rights”.
- Autoeuropa
The Workers’ Commission (CT) of Autoeuropa announced its intention to join the December 11 general strike against the government’s proposed labor package, which they consider “an attack on workers’ rights”.
- Textiles, Woolen, Garments, Footwear, and Leather
The Federation of Textile, Woolen, Garment, Footwear, and Leather Workers’ Unions (Fesete) in Portugal will join the December 11 general strike.
- Local Administration Workers
The Union of Local Administration Workers (STAL) also announced its support for the general strike set for December 11, opposing the government’s new labor package.
- National Education Federation
The National Education Federation (FNE) announced its participation in the December 11 general strike, criticizing the government’s approach to labor law reform.
- Caixa Geral de Depósitos
The Union of Workers from the CGD Group (Stec) also announced its participation in the December 11 general strike, stating that the government’s labor reform proposal could “seriously penalize” Caixa employees.
