In the early hours of Monday, July 7, a 33-year-old woman was admitted to a private hospital in Mirandela with back pain, eventually giving birth without knowing she was pregnant. Unfortunately, the baby died by the end of Tuesday, July 8.
The incident occurred as the woman arrived at the Permanent Medical Care facility at Hospital Terra Quente, complaining of “severe back pain” and unaware of her pregnancy. During examinations, she “unexpectedly went into labor.”
The hospital stated on Facebook that “the medical team on duty reacted swiftly and effectively.”
During the delivery, a nurse accompanied the woman while a doctor ensured her clinical stabilization and coordinated with INEM to activate necessary emergency resources.
Upon their arrival, the baby, “premature,” had already been born and both the mother and child were “stable.”
The mother and child were later transferred to the neonatal unit at Hospital de Vila Real.

The young mother was unaware of her pregnancy. She entered the hospital with back pain and left with a baby in her arms. Both mother and child are fine.

Last Thursday, July 10, a pregnant woman delivered her baby in a car while headed to Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada. The vehicle had to stop on the roadside along the IC21, between Barreiro and the A2 motorway.
The woman, residing in Barreiro, was heading to Almada because the obstetric emergency units at Hospital de Nossa Senhora do Rosário were closed.

The family contacted INEM on Thursday afternoon, but decided to head to the hospital by themselves after hanging up the call.
