The front of the fire that broke out on Friday in the municipality of Castelo Branco, remained “quite active” this morning due to the wind, a source from the national command of Civil Protection said today.
About 766 operatives, supported by 254 vehicles and an aerial means, were fighting the fire today around 08:45, the source said, specifying that reinforcements of aerial means were requested from Spain to fight the fire front.
In the meantime, three platoons of soldiers are conducting surveillance operations in places where the fire has already been contained.
The wind and the characteristics of the terrain are conditioning the fight against the fire that broke out at 15:00 on Friday in a forest area near the village of Carrascal, Santo André das Tojeiras, in the municipality of Castelo Branco, and which is also plowing in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, in the same district.
