Fuels are more expensive today. Find out where it’s cheapest to refuel.

A week begins with changes in fuel prices, which are set to become more expensive this Monday. An increase is expected for both diesel and gasoline.

As per predictions released by the Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) on Friday, diesel will become more expensive by two cents today, while gasoline will increase by 1.5 cents.

“If the forecasts for next week are confirmed, the average price of simple diesel is expected to rise to 1.717 euros per liter, while the average price of simple 95 gasoline will increase to 1.562 €/l,” estimated ACP at the end of last week.

This rise comes at a time when, according to the Direção Geral de Energia e Geologia (DGEG), “the average price per liter of diesel in Portugal was 1.697 euros on Friday (September 5), while the average price per liter of gasoline was 1.547 euros.”

These forecasts, as explained by ACP, “are based on the assumption of maintaining extraordinary tax reduction measures implemented by the government to mitigate price increases.”

“The measures in force include the reduction of the Fuel Tax (ISP) and the compensation of additional VAT revenue,” it adds.

How is oil performing in international markets?

The price of a Brent barrel for November delivery ended on Friday in the London futures market down by 2.22%, settling at $65.50.

The North Sea crude, a benchmark in Europe, closed the Intercontinental Exchange session at $1.49 lower than the $66.99 closing price on Thursday.

The drop in price is attributed to the possibility of OPEC+ deciding to increase its production at the meeting scheduled for this Sunday.

OPEC+ is the term used for the group that brings together members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries with allies such as the Russian Federation.

If realized, this possibility would increase supply and reinforce pressure on prices.

Additionally, analysts report that U.S. oil stocks have unexpectedly risen, reflecting lower-than-expected demand in the world’s leading economy.
