Funchal Captaincy extends strong wind warning

The Civil Protection Agency has announced that the south coast and mountainous regions will be under a yellow heat warning until Tuesday.

According to information from the Regional Civil Protection Service, the yellow warning for hot weather will come into effect at 9:00 AM on Sunday and continue until midnight on Tuesday.

In the southern coast and mountainous regions of Madeira Island, air temperatures may exceed 29°C (degrees Celsius).

The yellow warning is the least severe on a scale of three and signifies a “risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.”

The Funchal Port Authority has extended the strong wind warning along the coast of the Madeira archipelago, initially valid until 6:00 PM today, to 6:00 AM on Sunday.

The warning, issued based on the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecast, indicates fresh to very fresh winds, sometimes strong, with gusts between 51 and 62 km/h.

The Funchal Port Authority advises the maritime community and the general public to exercise caution, both in preparing for maritime activities and while at sea or in coastal areas, including reinforcing the mooring of docked and anchored vessels, and avoiding walks in areas exposed to ocean agitation.
