Funchal Captaincy extends strong wind warning

The warnings are based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), indicating that wind speeds are expected to gradually increase to “very fresh to strong (between 51 and 61 kilometers per hour) from the early morning.”

Sea visibility will be “good to moderate, occasionally poor,” with waves on the north coast rising to 4.5 meters and around 3.5 meters on the southern part of Madeira.

These meteorological conditions have led the regional maritime authority to advise the maritime community and the public on the necessary precautions to take “in preparation for a sea trip, while at sea, or in coastal areas.”

Recommendations from the captaincy include reinforcing moorings and monitoring docked and anchored vessels, avoiding walking near the sea and areas exposed to sea agitation, and refraining from leisure fishing in potentially dangerous locations.
