The regional maritime authority, referencing forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), predicts that visibility at sea around Madeira will be “good to moderate, occasionally poor to bad in the northwestern part.”
Regarding wind conditions, it is expected to be “moderate to very fresh, occasionally strong in the northwestern area until the end of the afternoon,” becoming “light to moderate” later.
Wave heights are anticipated to reach four meters on the northern coast and up to two meters in the southern area.
The harbor master advises “the entire maritime community and the general public to exercise caution, both in preparing to go to sea and while at sea or in coastal areas.”
Recommendations include reinforcing mooring lines and closely monitoring moored and anchored vessels, avoiding walks near the sea or in areas exposed to maritime agitation, and refraining from recreational fishing in areas affected by waves.
