The captaincy of the Port of Funchal has extended until 06:00 on Monday the warnings of bad weather and strong wind for Madeira’s coastline issued on Saturday.
The situation is based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) relating to the general state of the weather (wind and sea) for the coastline.
The maritime authority points out that the wind is from the north-east, “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong until early afternoon”.
The waves will be up to four meters on the north coast and around 2.5 meters on the south.
Faced with this situation, he advises taking extra care, “both when preparing to go to sea and when at sea or in coastal areas”.
The maritime authority calls for mooring to be strengthened and for close surveillance of moored and anchored vessels, stresses that walks by the sea or in areas exposed to sea waves should be avoided and advises against recreational fishing.
