The Funchal City Councilor for Civil Protection and Firefighters stated that an alert was raised around 8:00 a.m., with no injuries reported.
The incident involves an old private residence with maintenance issues, likely exacerbated by recent adverse weather conditions, he explained.
The councilor noted that civil protection services were immediately activated, specifically the team responsible for assessing structural risk. The conclusion drawn was that the entire roof structure is at risk, necessitating temporary relocation for residents.
The emergency line 144 has been activated, and residents will now be rehoused by Social Security, he mentioned.
Access to the upper part of the house is restricted due to debris, requiring cleanup and a more thorough structural analysis, emphasized the Civil Protection Councilor.
