The latest update on weather conditions, specifically wind and sea states along Madeira’s coastline, is based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to IPMA, waves are expected to reach around 4.5 meters on the northern coast, “gradually decreasing to 2.5 to 3.5 meters.” On the southern coast, waves of 3.5 meters are anticipated in the island’s westernmost part.
The regional maritime authority notes that winds will be “moderate to fresh, occasionally very fresh (40 to 50 kilometers per hour), weakening to gentle to moderate from late morning.”
Visibility is forecasted to be “good to moderate, occasionally poor.”
In light of these meteorological conditions, the maritime authority emphasizes recommendations for the entire maritime community and the general public to exercise caution.
Recommendations include reinforcing the mooring and monitoring of berthed and anchored vessels, avoiding walks in areas exposed to sea agitation, and refraining from recreational fishing.
