“Fundamental political objective” for Carneiro? Victory in Porto and Lisbon

The Secretary-General of the PS joined the PS candidate for Porto City Council, Manuel Pizarro, in an event near the Bolhão Market and expressed confidence in the PS’s victory in Invicta on Sunday.

“Winning Porto and winning Lisbon is a fundamental political goal, and my perception today, three months after assuming leadership of the PS, is that there is a broad civil society movement that finds a common home in the PS, but goes far beyond the Socialist Party,” he stated.

In José Luís Carneiro’s view, “finally, Porto will have a leadership to guide the Northwestern Peninsula and assert Porto on the global stage.”

“It is necessary to have a leadership that is cosmopolitan, that does not want a timid, small Porto, but rather an open, cosmopolitan Porto that sends a message of our values to the world and makes a significant contribution to the country’s life,” he advocated.

The PS leader hopes that “Luís Montenegro will not hold another Cabinet meeting” in the Bolhão Market, “especially during an election campaign.”

“Here, Porto is a good example. Social democrats, Christian democrats, humanists, people who vote more to the left, or more center-right, this is, in fact, a good example of a plural, diverse candidacy, a common home for all democrats in Porto, a thriving, leading city,” he noted.

Carneiro believes the PS “will reconnect with the Portuguese people” and “once again become the great house of democracy” in the country.
