
The wake for journalist Constança Cunha e Sá is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, at the Basilica da Estrela in Lisbon, with the funeral set for Thursday at Olivais cemetery.
The funeral service agency Servilusa announced in a statement that Constança Cunha e Sá’s coffin “will lie in state on December 3 (Wednesday) from 18:00 to 23:00” at the Basilica da Estrela.
The funeral rites will begin at 11:00 on December 4, Thursday, with the procession heading to Olivais cemetery in Lisbon.
Journalist and political analyst Constança Cunha e Sá passed away this Tuesday at the age of 67. The news was initially reported by CNN and confirmed by Notícias ao Minuto, which also learned that the journalist had been ill.
Born on August 23, 1958, in Lisbon, Constança Cunha e Sá held a degree in Philosophy and worked as a teacher before transitioning to journalism at the age of 29, starting at the magazine Sábado.
A year later, she joined the weekly O Independente, where she served as assistant director and director, and later worked as a main editor at Diário Económico and as a political editor, journalist, and commentator at TVI.
She left the television channel in 2020 but returned in 2021.
Recently, Constança Cunha e Sá supported António Filipe’s candidacy for next year’s presidential elections. In an Instagram post three weeks ago, the candidate stated: “It is an honor to have the support of a great name in Portuguese journalism. Thank you, Constança Cunha e Sá.”

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, remembered Constança Cunha e Sá as “a singular figure in Portuguese journalism,” highlighting her independence of thought and “constant sense of civic responsibility.”
“A woman of great character, intelligence, and rigor, she stood out for her independence of thought and a constant sense of civic responsibility,” said the head of state in a publication on the Presidency of the Republic’s website.
The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, stated that Portuguese political journalism “is in mourning” due to the death of Constança Cunha e Sá.
“Portuguese political journalism is in mourning with the premature departure of Constança Cunha e Sá. On behalf of myself and the Government of Portugal, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family and friends,” wrote Luís Montenegro on his official X account.
