Funeral of councilwoman killed by her son in Vagos to be held tomorrow

The funeral of Susana Gravato, the Vagos councilwoman who was killed by her 14-year-old son, is scheduled for Saturday, October 25.

As stated by the local Funeral Agency, her body will be on display at the Igreja Matriz da Gafanha da Boa Hora in Vagos from 9 a.m., followed by a Catholic funeral at 11 a.m.

Subsequently, her body will be cremated in Aveiro.

Councilwoman Murdered at Home

Susana Gravato passed away on Tuesday at the age of 49 after being found in cardiac arrest at her home by her husband.

The case, which shocked the local community and the nation, became even more concerning when it was revealed that her 14-year-old son was the main suspect.

Susana was reportedly on the phone with a friend when she suddenly screamed and stopped responding. Her friend, alarmed, alerted the Vagos councilwoman’s husband, who found her at their home in cardiac arrest.

Initial theories suggested the possibility of a robbery, as she was discovered covered with a blanket.

Son Revealed as the Perpetrator

The last person with Susana was her 14-year-old son, and it was known that after he left the house, the home’s surveillance cameras ceased functioning, at which point the crime occurred.

A day later, the Judiciary Police announced they had identified the minor as the suspect who killed his mother with a gunshot to the head. The weapon used belonged to the father.

The young suspect is now under preventive custody in a closed regime educational center for three months.

This precautionary measure was determined following the first interrogation, which took place on Wednesday at the Family and Juvenile Court of Aveiro as part of the Educational Tutelary Process initiated against the minor for acts constituting qualified homicide, which occurred on Tuesday.
