The University of Minho and the Municipality of Guimarães have announced in a joint statement that severe weather conditions that hit the region and country from November 16 to 17 have resulted in a partial collapse of a building.
The collapse occurred inside the building, but a granite stone fell onto the adjacent street without causing any personal or material damage. Consequently, with the intervention of Civil Protection and the Municipal Police of Guimarães, the street was closed to traffic to ensure safety conditions, the municipality and University of Minho detailed.
The statement further informs that currently, Civil Protection, in close cooperation with the University of Minho, is taking necessary measures to restore normalcy.
This includes ensuring the safety conditions for street use and reinforcing the affected facades’ structures. We will make every effort to resume the rehabilitation work of this essential facility for the University of Minho and the municipality of Guimarães as soon as possible, both entities emphasized.
