Gabrielle’s visit to the Azores less severe than expected. The images

Seven islands of the Azores archipelago were put on red alert due to the passage of post-tropical storm Gabriell on Thursday and Friday, September 25 and 26.

At one point, the storm intensified into a hurricane, raising significant concerns. The government, Civil Protection, firefighters, authorities, and local councils prepared for the impact of Gabrielle.

Residents secured their properties. Fortunately, as confirmed by the Azorean Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel, during a Civil Protection briefing this morning, the severity of Gabrielle’s passage was “less than expected.”

In the Western group, consisting of Flores and Corvo, no incidents were recorded. Meanwhile, in the Central and Eastern Groups, 103 incidents were registered, mostly on the islands of Faial and Terceira, involving fallen trees and structures.

In Graciosa and Faial, eight people were left homeless, and the adverse weather caused damage to the Graciosa terminal.

Nevertheless, as highlighted by Alonso Miguel, there were no injuries, and Gabrielle’s passage was calmer than anticipated at one point.

The Azoreans remember another storm endured, with moments captured by numerous cameras.

Reuters, along with Getty Images, shared several images of Gabrielle’s passage through the Azores, which can be viewed in the gallery above.
