An official from the Valença Volunteer Firefighters in the Viana do Castelo district reported that the victims were a 56-year-old woman who received on-site assistance and a 62-year-old man who was transported to the Monção Basic Emergency Service (SUB) for “treatment of minor burns”.
The alarm was raised at 5:30 PM.
The explosion occurred while the gas cylinder was being handled for installation in the food stand for the gastronomic event, according to the firefighters.
“The stand was destroyed by the explosion and the subsequent fire it caused,” the official noted.
The source added that “the organization was working to remove all debris so that the festival could continue”.
Three vehicles, nine firefighters from the Valença Volunteer Firefighters, the Immediate Life Support ambulance from Valença, and the GNR were present at the scene.
