Google announced on Thursday the expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) personal assistant Gemini to Google Workspace in seven additional languages, including Portuguese, enabling Gmail inbox management in this language.

With this update, users can ask Gemini to show unread emails and manage their responses in Portuguese, among other features. It can also help write texts, summarize documents in Drive, create images and tables, along with other functionalities.

Starting this Thursday, languages such as Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and English are now supported by Gemini in the sidebar of Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Gmail.

“This expansion makes Gemini for Workspace [Google’s productivity tool] increasingly accessible to more than a billion people whose first language is now supported,” states the tech company.

The functionality is available in the Google Workspace sidebar.

“The ability to work in your preferred language goes beyond summarizing and creating content. When using the Gemini application (gemini.google.com) to research a topic or discuss ideas, you can choose to work in any of the 40 supported languages,” the company adds in a blog post.

For example, during a Google Meet video call, you can enable translated captions in any of the 69 supported languages, regardless of the spoken language, and soon, “Gemini will also automatically translate messages in Google Chat“, the company adds.

Meanwhile, since October, Gemini Live has been able to converse in European Portuguese.

The team at Luso AI promises to release soon a comprehensive and high-quality tutorial in Portuguese about using Google’s AI tools. Stay tuned
