The leadership of STPT released a statement today asserting that this represents “one of the largest attacks on workers’ rights since April 25th.”
“We have stated that the Government’s project to amend labor laws is based on a completely false premise, claiming that it intends to make Portugal a more just and supportive country, which, in our opinion, does not align with the proposals made by the Government to date,” it emphasized.
The union disagrees with changes concerning collective bargaining, deregulation of union membership principles, job insecurity with fixed-term contracts, traditional work models and challenges of the digital age, right to strike, training, and breastfeeding leave.
“Particularly, we highlighted the Government’s proposals regarding collective dismissals, which we consider the greatest social damage,” it said, citing the dismissal at Altice Portugal as an example of the current ease of dismissal.
“We received no response to any of this, nor has there been any significant change from the Government,” it lamented.
Therefore, the directors of STPT “have no hesitation in giving full support to the strike on the coming 11th, which has been called by the CGTP and UGT, covering workers across all sectors,” it highlighted.
