
A 68-year-old German man was rescued on Friday afternoon at the Garajau point on the island of Madeira after being reported missing while snorkeling.
The alert was raised by the victim’s wife, indicating that her husband had gone missing, prompting an immediate search by the crew of Funchal’s Lifeboat Station and the Funchal local Maritime Police Command.
According to a statement from the National Maritime Authority, the victim was found in a cliff area, “with various abrasions and signs of hypothermia.” The crew from the Lifeboat Station rescued the man and transported him to the Funchal harbor, where Portuguese Red Cross personnel were waiting. He was subsequently taken to a hospital.
The Funchal local Maritime Police Command registered the incident.
