If you haven’t made plans for the weekend yet, worry not, as the national calendar is packed. Between May 17 and 18, several major events are scheduled, including the Eurovision Song Contest final, the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV, legislative elections, and the last matchday of the Portuguese football championship.
Starting on Saturday, May 17, the final matchday of the Portuguese football league will see a champion crowned, following a draw between SL Benfica and Sporting CP which postponed the decision.
A total of seven matches are expected at 6:00 PM, including FC Porto vs. Nacional, Sporting vs. Vitória de Guimarães, and SC Braga vs. Benfica.
The Eurovision Song Contest final is also slated for May 17 in Basel, Switzerland. Portugal is among the 26 finalists after advancing in Tuesday’s semifinal.
On Sunday, May 18, the solemn mass for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV will mark his appointment in Rome.
Moreover, May 18 will see early legislative elections taking place, convened by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa following the rejection of a government confidence motion.
