“This week, we will experience some persistent rain, but [still] there is a considerable degree of uncertainty regarding the period when there will be more rain,” stated.
Paula Leitão explained that some frontal surfaces are approaching, and as they get closer to the Iberian Peninsula, they may be blocked by the anticyclone over the continent.
“The frontal surfaces begin to dissipate, and some can pass into mainland Portugal while others remain over the sea. The timing of the heaviest precipitation is still dependent on this interplay with the anticyclone and its ability to block these frontal surfaces,” she clarified.
According to the meteorologist from IPMA, it is expected to rain almost every day of the week, albeit with uncertain intensity.
“It rained overnight, and there is a tendency for light rain throughout the day, mainly in the north and center. Tomorrow [Tuesday] in the late afternoon, it will be more persistent and sometimes strong in the Minho region, prompting the issuance of a yellow warning”, she noted.
Paula Leitão indicated that maritime agitation is expected; winds will intensify starting Tuesday, reaching 80 kilometers per hour in the highlands, with no significant changes in temperature.
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a yellow warning for the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga due to maritime agitation.
This yellow warning for the six districts will be in effect from 04:40 today until 15:00 on Wednesday.
IPMA also issued a yellow rain warning, occasionally strong and persistent, for Porto district (between 06:00 and 17:00 on Wednesday) and Viana do Castelo and Braga (between 18:00 on Tuesday and 00:00 on Wednesday, and between 06:00 and 17:00 on Wednesday).

IPMA has further placed the western group of the Azores (Flores and Corvo) under a yellow warning due to expected winds, between 12:00 and 21:00 today.
