A 35-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on suspicion of sexual abuse after being reported by his daughter, who is under ten years old.
According to a statement sent to the press on Friday, “the investigation began following a report by the victim herself within a school environment, leading to a series of proceedings to verify the information reported.”
The same statement indicates that “consistency was given to the initial report,” with “even more elements than those initially provided by the minor, increasing the severity of the offense.”
“Yesterday [Thursday], following various efforts to locate the suspect, he was found and subsequently approached by members of this Police, having been taken to the Criminal Investigation Department of Braga, the PJ unit responsible for the investigation,” the statement reads.
Authorities explain that the offender, residing in Vila do Gerês, had already been referenced by the Judiciary Police “for committing crimes of a sexual nature.”
The PJ states that the man will now face an initial judicial interrogation.
