The National Republican Guard (GNR) released provisional data today regarding a road safety operation aimed at combating crime and reducing road accidents during the festive season. The operation, ongoing until the 21st, reported the results from 00:00 to 23:59 on Friday.
The provisional figures from April 11 indicate that a total of 6,413 drivers were inspected. Among them, 75 were found driving under the influence of alcohol, and 30 were arrested for having a blood alcohol level of 1.2 g/l or higher. Additionally, 17 individuals were detained for driving without a valid license.
The GNR also identified 1,437 road-related infractions, including 540 for speeding, 45 for alcohol violations, 40 for incorrect or missing use of seat belts and child restraint systems (SRC), 55 for inappropriate mobile phone use while driving, 139 for lack of mandatory periodic inspections, and 68 for lack of compulsory civil liability insurance.
Regarding road accidents, 268 incidents were recorded without any fatalities. However, the operations noted seven severe injuries and 80 minor injuries.
The GNR continues to emphasize the enforcement of laws against driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, speeding, improper mobile phone use, and correct usage of seat belts and SRCs.
The military force is also vigilant about the lack of mandatory periodic inspections, absence of compulsory insurance, and improper execution of overtaking, direction-changing, and yielding maneuvers.
The GNR advises drivers to maintain “attentive, cautious, and defensive” driving, urging them to adjust their speed according to weather conditions, road status, and traffic volume, while avoiding maneuvers “that might cause traffic obstructions” or potentially lead to accidents.
The GNR reiterates its dedication to public safety, especially “during times when family gatherings and traditions gain even greater significance.”
