
The GNR announced the arrest of a 53-year-old man on Wednesday following an operation led by the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) of Odemira, part of the Beja Territorial Command.
As part of a drug trafficking investigation, authorities discovered that the suspect was engaged in narcotics trafficking within the Beja district, according to officials.
During Wednesday’s operation, GNR officers executed a search warrant for the suspect’s residence and vehicle, leading to the seizure of illegal substances.
The items confiscated included two knives, three mobile phones, two precision digital scales, drug packaging materials, and 125 euros in cash.
The detainee has been named a defendant, and the case has been forwarded to the Odemira Judicial Court.
Additional support for the operation was provided by military personnel from Odemira’s Territorial Detachment, the Environmental Protection Unit, the Criminal Prevention and Community Policing Section, the Coastal and Border Control Unit, and intervention detachments from the Évora and Setúbal Territorial Commands.
The GNR noted that the operation also included members of the inspection team from the Odemira City Council and the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People of Odemira.
