“Years after being the first band to perform in coliseums following the ‘boom’ of Portuguese rock in the 1980s, GNR return to the iconic venues with ‘Operação STOP – Somos Todos Obrigados a reParar’,” a statement from the band’s management agency announced today.
In these two shows, Toli César Machado, Rui Reininho, and Jorge Romão “will share songs that are part of the history of Portuguese music and the lives of many Portuguese people.”
GNR (Grupo Novo Rock), formed in 1980 in Porto, have released 12 original albums, four compilations, and two live albums.
Before Rui Reininho joined, they released their first single, “Portugal na CEE,” in 1981, with Alexandre Soares on vocals and guitar. In 1982, with the current lead singer, they launched their debut album “Independança” and performed at the Vilar de Mouros festival.
Some of the group’s biggest hits include ‘Dunas’, ‘Efetivamente’, ‘Pronúncia do Norte’, featuring Isabel Silvestre, ‘Morte ao Sol’, ‘Popless’, ‘Mais vale nunca’, and ‘Vídeo Maria’.
Tickets for the coliseum concerts, priced between 20 and 55 euros in Porto and 25 to 55 euros in Lisbon, are already on sale.
