GNR closes illegal nursing home in Oliveira do Bairro: “Crime practice”

A nursing home operating illegally was shut down by the Aveiro Territorial Command of the National Republican Guard (GNR), through the Aveiro Investigation and Support Center for Specific Victims, on Wednesday, October 29, in Oliveira do Bairro. A 34-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man were identified for mistreatment of the elderly, and two mobile phones were seized.

As part of an investigation that had been ongoing for four months into the repeated practice of physical and psychological abuse of the elderly, authorities discovered that the suspects were running an eldercare business in rented residences without appropriate conditions for the elderly residents and without proper professional training for their caregivers, as explained in a statement sent on Sunday, November 2.

Following this action, it is further noted that three residential searches were conducted in the parishes of Bustos and Oiã, resulting in the administrative closure of the residential structure for the elderly.

Authorities also removed four elderly individuals, directing them to the Social Security support network, and removed a child, notifying the Child and Youth Protection Commission (CPCJ), who was then placed in a social support institution for minors at risk.

The case was reported to the Águeda Judicial Court.

This operation was supported by the Health Authority of Oliveira do Bairro, Social Security of Coimbra, Social Security of Aveiro, and the Child and Youth Protection Commission of Oliveira do Bairro.
