The GNR announced that men were deceiving victims by simulating traffic accidents, making them believe they had caused vehicle damage.
They coerced the victims into handing over large sums of money to cover the alleged repair costs.
“The investigation revealed the targets were pre-selected based on age, being particularly vulnerable victims,” stated the guard.
There were instances where the suspects visited the victims’ residences, committing thefts and stealing tens of thousands of euros.
Following the operation, two arrest warrants and three house search warrants were executed, along with four vehicle searches. A third suspect was detained for possession of a prohibited weapon.
During the operation, authorities seized 3,045 euros in cash, a revolver, three firearms, 87 rounds of various calibers, and two mobile phones.
Two men, aged 18 and 25, were arrested for fraud, while a 23-year-old was detained for possession of a prohibited weapon.
The detainees are to appear for a preliminary judicial hearing at the Braga Judicial Court, where coercive measures will be applied.
