A 94-year-old woman was found “conscious” and “without visible injuries” after disappearing in Alcobaça on Tuesday, as reported by the National Republican Guard (GNR).
The alert regarding her disappearance came from the village of Murteira, in the parish of Cela. Authorities stated that police efforts to locate her were “immediately initiated”.
Two Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) teams, also known as drones, from the Emergency Protection and Rescue Unit (UEPS) were deployed, alongside three K9 units from the Territorial Command of Leiria.
The woman was eventually “located alive, utilizing a drone,” according to the GNR.
“She was found conscious, exhibiting signs of dehydration but without visible injuries,” the GNR explained.
Emergency services were activated, with the victim receiving assistance onsite before being transported to a hospital for medical evaluation.
The operation was bolstered by support from the Territorial Posts of Alcobaça, São Martinho do Porto, and Valado dos Frades, along with the volunteer firefighters from Alcobaça.
The authority highlighted “the success of this mission, which safeguarded a human life,” and emphasized “the effective coordination and deployment of various resources and skills, notably the use of drones.”
