
An 80-year-old man was located at 2:30 a.m. while walking along a rural path by a drone from the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS) that was mobilized for the search efforts.
The alert for the disappearance was given by the man’s daughter on Sunday night at the Sabrosa Post, noting that he was last seen that morning when he went to collect wild mushrooms near the village of Fermentões.
The National Republican Guard (GNR) indicated that the elderly man seemed disoriented, but was in good health, and was taken to Vila Real Hospital as a precaution.
The search involved GNR soldiers, firefighters from Sabrosa, and the Municipal Civil Protection.
Earlier this week, searches in the district of Vila Real were conducted for two other individuals, both aged 67, who were found deceased.
On Saturday night, an alert was issued for the disappearance of a man residing in Vila Pouca de Aguiar, prompting search efforts that mobilized three patrols.
On Sunday at 11:25 a.m., a civilian reported via 112 a car accident in Póvoa, in the municipality of Ribeira de Pena. It was confirmed that the vehicle belonged to the missing man.
The vehicle collided with a lighting post, and the man was found outside the car, approximately 10 meters away. His death was declared by the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) team.
Military personnel from the GNR’s Traffic Accident Investigation Unit were dispatched to the site to investigate the cause of the accident.
On Friday, the body of a 67-year-old woman, reported missing since Wednesday, was found near the Alto Rabagão dam in Montalegre.
