
The initiative aims to ensure compliance with European legislation, enhance transport safety for people and goods, and detect violations to foster a safer road environment and prevent accidents.
This operation is part of the European Traffic Police Network (RoadPol), created by Europe’s traffic police forces. The GNR highlights four priority areas in road safety: roads, vehicles, users, and speed.
On Friday, a collision involving a bus and two light vehicles resulted in two fatalities on National Road 256 in São Manços, Évora, alongside five injuries.
A GNR source informed the Lusa agency that the second fatality was a one-year-old baby, who was critically injured and transported to Évora hospital, where death was confirmed.
The other fatality was a 22-year-old driver of one of the light passenger vehicles.
