A 55-year-old man has been named as a suspect by the Aveiro Territorial Command, through the Águeda branch of the Serviço de Proteção da Natureza e do Ambiente (SEPNA), on July 19, for the theft of homing pigeons.
In a statement accessed by Notícias ao Minuto on Tuesday, the National Republican Guard (GNR) stated that “in the context of a ten-month investigation concerning a theft in Águeda, the Guard’s officers conducted police inquiries that led to the identification and location of the suspect.”
Following the operation, “it was also possible to recover 18 homing pigeons valued at approximately 100,000 euros,” the GNR explained.
A total of 60 identification rings, six perches, one drinker, one feeder, several rolls of stainless steel mesh, and title deeds for the rings were seized.

The animals were recovered and returned to their rightful owner.
The details have been referred to the Águeda Judicial Court.
