The National Republican Guard (GNR) rescued a 90-year-old woman from a house fire on Saturday in Sintra.
The officers were on patrol when they were approached by a man in a “clear state of distress,” who alerted them that his house was on fire.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Guard discovered a “dense concentration of smoke” and were informed that an elderly woman was still inside the home.
“Immediately, the officers entered the residence and rescued the elderly woman, removing her to safety,” stated the GNR in their communiqué.
With the woman safely rescued, the officers turned their attention to extinguishing the fire, using “extinguishers and hoses available in the residence,” thus preventing “major damage.”
The fire was eventually extinguished with the arrival of the São Pedro Volunteer Firefighters.
Both the elderly woman and her family members are safe.
